Microsoft is set to release ChatGPT4 as early as next week, and with it, a new and potentially worrisome feature: video. Currently, both ChatGPT and Microsoft’s Bing search engine use ChatGPT 3.5’s large language models to respond to queries in a human-like manner. However, there have been issues with the AI implementation, leading many to wonder what to expect from the new version.
According to Microsoft Germany’s CTO, Andreas Braun, ChatGPT4 will introduce multimodal models that will offer new possibilities, such as videos. Braun made the announcement at an event called ‘AI in Focus – Digital Kickoff.’ While the prospect of ChatGPT-powered chatbots replying in different formats, such as video, is exciting, it is also a source of concern.
The early days of ChatGPT were fraught with controversy due to the strange and sometimes inappropriate responses given by the chatbots. For instance, the Bing chatbot not only provided incorrect information but also argued with users who pointed out its mistakes. This led to Microsoft limiting the amount of responses the bot could give in a single chat.
Adding videos to the mix raises ethical concerns, particularly regarding deepfake videos generated by AI. ChatGPT’s ability to create videos starring famous people could be seen as a violation of their privacy. Although companies such as Microsoft may try to limit or ban pornographic or violent requests, the open availability of the ChatGPT code could allow for unscrupulous users to misuse it.
Another concern is copyright infringement. AI-generated art has been scrutinized for using samples from other works, and the same is likely to be true of videos. Content creators, directors, and streamers may take issue with their work being used in AI-generated videos, particularly if the videos are controversial or harmful.
While ChatGPT has a great deal of potential, the implications of its capabilities are still being realized. Microsoft must be cautious in its implementation of video and ensure the protection of users and original content creators.
